Braceface Nail Art

This was a great suggestion from LittleMonsterx14. I remembered this cartoon once she suggested it! I really enjoyed it growing up.

Some info from wikipedia:

"Braceface is a Canadian animated series that aired on Teletoon in Canada, and on Disney Channel and ABC Family in the United States, as well as Pop Girl in Australia. It is produced by American actress Alicia Silverstone. Sharon Spitz is the main character of the series. Like most girls, Sharon sometimes does get into trouble and messes up like every other teen, but she always learns from her mistakes and sets things right in the end, no matter what the situation. Sharon is also known to be a clumsy girl and, would usually end up embarrassing herself somehow."

My poor planning lead to her face not fitting entirely on my nail. I wanted to include her cute smile since her braces were the whole point behind the title. So I just made braces run across the tips of my other nails. The blue is China Glaze Bahamian Blue and the rest are acrylic paints.

Her face came out a little jaundiced looking because the yellow paint doesn't agree with anything being put on top of it. So the yellow from her hair bled through the beige face color by the time I took my pictures.

Tale Spin

Were you a fan of Tale Spin? The series with characters adapted from "The Jungle Book," I chose to focus on the logo and Baloo.

Base polish is Essie Navigate Her, all the rest of the details were done with acrylic paints.

Bonkers Nail Art

Another cartoon look. This one is lesser known, but I remember being a fan.

It aired from 1993-1995 on the Disney Channel.

From wikipedia - "The premise of the series was that Bonkers D. Bobcat, an anthropomorphic bobcat who was a popular cartoon star had washed out of show business and became a cop. He was made the junior partner of Detective Lucky Piquel, a grim and ill-tempered human who hates toons. Throughout the series, the pair work together to solve crimes in the Hollywood, Los Angeles, California region. Bonkers repeatedly tried to win Piquel's praise, but usually just ended up ruining missions with his antics."

I painted Bonker's face on my thumb nail, then my ring nail is an outline of a police shield with the logo name across it. Polishes used - Orly Snowcone, Shimmer Polish Maria, OPI Honey Ryder, & Kiss Nail Art Striper in black. All the rest are acrylic paints.

Bobby's World

Do you remember Bobby's World? It ran from 1990 to 1998 on FOX Kids. It was created by Howie Mandel (I didn't know that prior to looking this up!) It's based on the life of an energetic little 4 year old with a big imagination.

I started with OPI...Eurso Euro, each subsequent step was created with acrylic paint.

The One That Copied Lexi From FingerPainted

Sometimes something comes along that just really intrigues you.... This has been the case for me and Lexi's baby stiletto nail shape. I just adore them. I think it looks so cute on her, and besides I LOVE pretty much all the nail art she has ever done. The girl has some mad skills. ;)

My nails were getting too long and to the point where I wanted to give them a big chop.... So it struck me to do an experiment. I wondered if my nails could do a baby stiletto too? Lexi mentioned once that she does a thin layer of gel polish over hers to reinforce them and help prevent breaking the tips. I thought that mine cut to this shape without gel might just last a day or two, but enough to tribute some nail art to one I admire. Surprisingly, as I type this, I'm 4 days in and several polish changes later, still with intact tips! I guess it's the Duri Rejuvacote I have to thank for that. The stuff makes my nails rock solid.

I copied this simple bow nail art she did because I had the same base polish, Shimmer Alessandra. Acrylic paints for the bow.

First impression: I'm not too fond of this nail shape on myself. I think it's more flattering on Lexi's nail bed shape. HOWEVER, I've vowed to give it a good run and not just rush to that decision. I'm going to leave them this shape for at least a week or two to really feel it out. Wish me luck!

Drippy Paint Cans

Finally a nail art inspired by something in my own brain! Of course what do I know? This has probably been done before, but the idea hit me so here we go.

Half moons of black, silver nails. Then some freehanded acrylic paint for the sloshy paint drippings. Small white shine highlight. Then black and silver stacked dots off to the side, then a swoop of the paint can's handle. Topcoat to finish.

Beautopia Nails Floral Copy Cat

Inspired by Beautopia nails on Tumblr. More floral nails.

I really loved these and ended wearing them for 4 days last week!

I used China Glaze Electric Beat, Dance Baby, Something Sweet, Orly Fresh, Essie Navigate Her. The black was then done with a Sinful Colors black nail art striper polish.

I wanted to do another floral design, but this time I mixed it up with a skittle variation.

Pink Doodles

I needed a blank slate to try out some new nail art items from Born Pretty. Nail art brushes and a nail art pen. I figured a notepad type doodle would be just right.

This nail art brush set is found here for $2.57.

They each had a few random stray hairs, easily solved with scissors. I used the blue paint brush for the blue lines, and the red paint brush for the red lines. I used acrylic paint for the colors. (The base polish is Sally Hansen Insta Dri Whirlwind White)

The nail art pen can be found here for $5.99. They have 6 available colors: white, gray, hot pink, red, black, & yellow. This was obviously the pink one.

It's easy to use, just shake it up well, pump the tip against a piece of scrap paper until the color flows. Then it draws pretty easily. Just like a marker.

I found it was sheer in places, like my pinky in the picture. I just made one pass of my signature. The rest of the doodles were passed over twice.

Art Exhibit - 2013

I entered an art show again this year, this is the one from last year.

This year I did 2 separate and small 6"x6" shadowboxes.

I did put a price on each of $100. So we shall see if someone ends up buying them.... Last years was bought for $500! So fingers crossed!

The show is tonight, I'll be sure to edit this post with an update once it's all over.

Stripes & Drips

These nails were inspired by Nancy Mc and her Mickey nail wheel.

I don't think I've ever done drippy nails before, but these were a lot of fun.

I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White as a base and started taping off the stripes to create them. After 2 nails I got sick of that slow process, so I just freehanded them with Sinful Colors Time Out which is a black striper brush polish.

I then applied white for the drippy sections because I wanted the neon to be vibrant. The neon dark pink is Color Club Raspberry Rush. Then black striper polish to outline the drips and a white acrylic paint and a tiny brush for the shine marks.

Geometric Squares

I've been feeling a little down and like a nail blogger failure because I haven't had much of my own nail art inspiration. I feel like I'm in a creative block. :( So the only nail art I've been doing is inspired by other bloggers.

Today it was this look from Whitney at Dressed Up Nails.

I used China Glaze Lemon Fizz, For Audrey, & Zoya Dea.

All of the details were done with a skinny nail art brush.

Lotsa Hearts

These ended up looking like generic stickers, but I swear I painstakingly applied each and every heart. I used a dotting tool and a tiny nail art brush. They were inspired by Rebecca's nails here.
